Switch without starting over

Bring your history with you

Products, parties, opening balances, and past bills — in one guided hub.

Leaving Tally, Vyapar, spreadsheets, or another billing app? Simple Bills has a Migration hub inside the app. Paste CSV, preview every row, fix errors before import, and keep your books continuous from day one.

In the app: Sign in → Company setupMigration hub. Each step has Import CSV, Download sample, and a link to the matching list. Up to 100 rows per file — split larger exports into batches.

The switch most owners dread

Re-entering every product, every customer balance, and last year's invoices by hand — or paying someone to do it — is why teams delay moving to better software.

Preview before import

Every row is validated first. See name, price, HSN, GST, and errors in a table — nothing silent fails.

Products with HSN

Import name, sell price, cost, quantity, HSN code, GST rate, and unit — HSN is saved when you provide it.

Customers & vendors

Parties with phone, address, GSTIN/PAN, and opening balances where you have them.

Opening balances

Cash, bank, stock value, customer dues, and vendor payables in one CSV — posted to your books.

Historical invoices & purchases

Past bills grouped by reference — posts to ledgers and GST history without changing current stock.

Payments & journals

Record payments against imported refs, or post adjustment journals — debits must equal credits.

Recommended import order

Follow this sequence so names and refs exist before dependent rows import.

  1. Products — items you sell (with optional HSN and GST rate)
  2. Customers — buyers; include opening_balance if they already owed you
  3. Vendors — suppliers you buy from
  4. Opening balances — cash, bank, inventory value, customer dues, vendor payables
  5. Historical invoices — one row per line item; same invoice_ref groups into one bill
  6. Historical purchases — past supplier bills; same purchase_ref groups lines
  7. Historical payments — if not recorded inline on invoices/purchases
  8. Journals — manual adjustments; lines grouped by journal_ref

Built for a safe cutover

Your live stock and day-to-day workflow stay protected while history comes in.

  • Historical invoice and purchase imports post to books but do not move current stock
  • Dates must fall within a financial year you created in Simple Bills
  • Success and error messages after every import — fix rows and re-import batches
  • Keep your old software read-only for past GST returns and audits
  • Spot-check receivables, payables, and stock against your old system after import
